Ingredients:
1½ pounds ground beef
2½ cups refried beans
salt and cracked black pepper to taste
granulated garlic to taste
¼ cup bread crumbs
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
¼ cup sliced green onions
¼ cup canned chopped green chilies, drained
½ tsp ground cumin
chili powder to taste
6 toasted hamburger buns
6 slices Pepper-jack cheese
2 Creole tomatoes, sliced
1 ripe avocado, pitted, peeled and sliced
Method:
In a small saucepan or microwaveable bowl, heat refried beans until warm. Season beans to taste using salt, pepper and granulated garlic then set aside and keep warm. In a large mixing bowl, combine beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire, green onions, chilies, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper and granulated garlic and mix well. Divide mixture into 6 portions. Shape portions into round patties about ½ inch thick. Brush burgers with melted butter and arrange, butter side down, on a hot grate. Cook 6–8 minutes on each side or until desired doneness. Place burgers on toasted hamburger buns. Top with refried beans, Pepper-jack, tomatoes and avocado and serve warm.
