Comfort food at its finest. The sweet smoky flavor of these beans are a perfect match for ribs, chicken or even burgers. You control the spiciness by adjusting the amount of chipotle chilies.
Ingredients:
6 bacon slices
1½ cups chopped onion
1¼ cups barbecue sauce
¾ cup dark beer
¼ cup light molasses
3 tbsps Dijon mustard
3 tbsps (packed) dark brown sugar
2 tbsps Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
4 to 6 tsps minced canned chipotle chilies
6 (15-16 ounce) cans Great Northern beans, drained
Method:
Preheat oven to 350º F. Cook bacon in large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Transfer bacon to paper towels and drain. Transfer 2½ tbsps bacon drippings from skillet to large bowl. Finely chop bacon and add to bowl. Add onions, barbecue sauce, beer, molasses, mustard, sugar, Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce. Whisk to blend. Whisk in chipotle chilies, depending on desired spicy heat. Stir beans into mixture and pour into 13 x 9 x2-inch glass baking dish. Bake uncovered until liquid starts to bubble about 10 minutes.
