SECOND ANNUAL SALSA SHOOT-OUT

INVITATION AND RULES

Do you make killer Salsas?  If so, they might soon wow not just your guests but also our judges.  Chef John Folse invites amateur cooks to enter his Second Annual Salsa Shoot-Out, during White Oak Plantation’s Fourth Annual Tomato and Herb Fest, Sunday, June 10, 2007.

The rules are simple:

  1. All entrants must be considered amateurs. An amateur is anyone not currently marketing for profit his or her own brand of hot and spicy product(s) or earning his or her living as a professional chef.
  2. All salsas must feature fresh tomatoes and fresh herbs.
  3. Salsas will be judged on Taste, Visual Appearance, Aroma and Creativity (or Presentation). Judging will be conducted using impartial blind judging standards.
  4. Contestants should bring one gallon of their salsa, to be forfeited to the festival at the end of the contest.  White Oak Plantation will provide chips for sampling.
  5. Entries may be placed in any container for presentation; however, no distinguishable identifying marks or names will be permitted.
  6. Cash prizes ($200, $100, $50) will be awarded to the top three winners.
  7. All decisions of judges are final.
  8. Deadline for submitting an Entry Form is midnight, Friday, June 1, 2007.
  9. Contestants should arrive at White Oak Plantation for set-up by 9:00 AM, Sunday, June 10.  Contest begins at 10:00 AM.
  10. Though you will set up your presentation early, plan to keep your salsa in a cooler until shortly before judging.
