FIRST ANNUAL CHILI CHALLENGE
INVITATION AND RULES
Do you make a Chili that your guests rave about? If so, our judges might think it’s a winner, too. Chef John Folse invites amateur cooks to enter his First Annual Chili Challenge during White Oak Plantation’s Fourth Annual Tomato and Herb Fest, Sunday, June 10, 2007.
The rules are simple:
- All entrants must be considered amateurs. An amateur is anyone not currently marketing for profit his or her own brand of hot and spicy product(s) or earning his or her living as a professional chef.
- All chilis must feature fresh tomatoes and fresh herbs.
- Chilis will be judged on Taste, Visual Appearance, Aroma and Creativity (or Presentation). Judging will be conducted using impartial blind judging standards.
- Contestants should bring one gallon of their chili, to be forfeited to the festival at the end of the contest. White Oak Plantation will provide bowls and spoons for sampling.
- Entries may be placed in any container for presentation; however, no distinguishable identifying marks or names will be permitted.
- Cash prizes ($200, $100, $50) will be awarded to the top three winners.
- All decisions of judges are final.
- Deadline for submitting an Entry Form is midnight, Friday, June 1, 2007.
- Contestants should arrive at White Oak Plantation for set-up by 9:00 AM, Sunday, June 10. Contest begins at 10:00 AM.
- Heat your chili at home and bring it in an insulated container so it will stay hot throughout judging and serving.
